This event aims to review the current human rights situation in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with a special focus on the country’s use of torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment against women detained in UAE’s prisons. This is especially relevant in light of the recent cases of Amina al- Abdouli and Maryan al-Balushi. The panel will consider both the issues and problems facing women in the UAE prisons as well as domestic and international remedies to address these human rights violations.
